Applicants on the Waiting List are issued a voucher, and it is the applicants responsibility to locate a suitable unit within the allotted time period shown on their Voucher.  Units must be located within the city limits, and must be found affordable for the family based on the applicant's income and pass a HUD Safety & Health inspection and landlord review.

The prospective landlord may subject applicants to background, credit, income and previous tenancy checks.  There may also be a fee charged by the owner/manager for an application, credit and background checks.

The housing choice voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.  Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.

Effective 12-27-2022, Carbon Monoxide alarms or detectors will be required in Federally Assisted Housing. This only includes units that have gas as a utility but it also applys to housing with an attached garage or fireplace regardless of the gas utility.
